Two local award-winning student-actors will travel to New York City later this month to show their stuff alongside fellow actors from across the country at a national acting competition.

McKenzie Kurtz, of Milton High School, and Nick Eibler, of West Forsyth High School, will travel to New York to compete in the seventh annual National High School Musical Theatre Awards, otherwise known as The Jimmy Awards.

Both Kurtz and Eibler qualified for the national competition after winning Shuler Hensley Awards — Georgia’s high school musical theatre awards — earlier this year. Kurtz won the 2015 Shuler Leading Actress award for her role as Mary Poppins, and Eibler won the 2015 Shuler Leading Actor Award for his role as Jimmy Winter in Nice Work if You Can Get It.

The Jimmy Awards will be held on Monday, June 29, at the Minskoff Theatre on Broadway. The local stars will leave for New York on Wednesday, June 24, for a week-long trip during which Kurtz and Eibler will compete against talented actors from across the United States for the top prize — the Jimmy Award — as well as for scholarships and other professional opportunities in theatre,
